SAFE SPACES
FOR BLACK WOMEN
A Global Network of Black Women Building Wellbeing Communities

A Letter from Our Founders
Some of us are so affected by the recent high profile cases of racial inequality and police brutality that we feel unable to sleep, concentrate on our work and are exhausted from seeing people who look like us being mistreated, dehumanised and murdered. This has traumatised and re-traumatised many of us. The silence from our non-Black friends, colleagues and peers has further disappointed and broken our hearts. Many of us feel very alone and tired right now. If you feel as tired and alone as I do, join our support group for Black women who feel tired. Tired of explaining ourselves. Tired of not being heard. Tired of existing in spaces where racial inequality exists but is not acknowledged. Tired of having to be the ones that are looked at as angry all the time.
We must have a safe space to checkin on each other, where we will express how we feel amongst like minded Black women who are also tired, we will hold space for each other. Everyone will be heard and be given the opportunity to say exactly how they feel, uncensored, unfiltered and without judgment. We will meditate together to let go of some of the harmful and soul destroying energy we have picked up over the past few weeks and months. We will support each other and foster collective healing through sharing words of encouragement, quotes, books, affirmations and prayers, but most of all offer a kind, understanding ear that shares our pain, rage and fatigue. Our rage, pain and exhaustion is justified, we will hold space for each other to feel how we feel and breath.
Kind Regards
Dr Leyla Hussein and Fatima Hagi
(Two Black women who are exhausted and tired)
